Random thoughts

Children are murdered and everyone gets into an uproar about gun control.  I want it to be clear that I think this event, the previous mall shooting in Oregon, and any subsequent shootings that might happen, are completely horrible, evil acts.  But I do have to wonder a few things...

1.  Babies are murdered every day.  Thousands of them.  Yet this is somehow legal and gets absolutely no media attention.

2.  Every single person I know that calls for stricter gun control wants to legalize drugs.  In a nutshell, they believe that legalizing drugs will reduce the use of drugs.  Yet they don't believe the same about guns...

3.  My friend posted an instagram photo about how many guns have killed people this year.  Guns are inanimate objects.  Guns can't do any harm without someone operating them - the person using the gun killed people.

4.  In Brazil only the police are allowed to have guns.  So that means the only people who have guns are the bad guys and the police.  That also means that a whole lot of bad guys become police, so that they can have guns.  That also means that every house has bars over the windows and doors and strong gates and walls around their yards.  Is this what we want for America?  If you want more information, talk to Peter, he has a wealth of personal, first-hand experience, having lived in Brazil for 23 years!

5.  Does the media have to report every little detail about what the gunman did and how?  This just gives more fodder to other people who are considering similar attacks.  Posting the attacker's image all over the internet, tv, etc, gives him a sort of "fame" that many other sick minded people crave.

I also want to point out that the CT shooter STOLE the guns.  Stricter gun control does not stop someone who is intent on murdering.

Ok, so that's my two cents.  I know that of my NorCal friends I am in the minority with these views.  We don't often talk about politics because while I can disagree with someone and remain good friends with them, many other people can not.

I hope everyone has a safe and happy rest of the Christmas season, and I'll be back to post more pictures and craft ideas soon!

xo,

Julie
